A Different Path

Bridging time in the classroom with play, the arts and the great outdoors, we offer a different approach to school that centers on learning as an experience rather than an outcome.

What Makes our Program Unique

Cooperative Education Program

We are home to families looking for a collaborative approach to school. Here, parents are partners in their child's education.

Time for Play

Structured and unstructured play time are integrated into the learning experience as part of an emergent, interdisciplinary curriculum.

Flexible Enrollment Options

We offer both a la carte classes and a hybrid homeschool option for families seeking community and regular time in the classroom.

Regular Field Trips

We take field trips to local areas of interest once a month. Some of the places we’ve visited this year include Colvin Run Mill, the U.S. Botanical Garden, Hidden Pond Nature Center and the Alexandria History Museum at the Lyceum.

Personalized Approach

Our Montessori approach in math and reading allows students to move through the material at their own pace. Interdisciplinary units in science and social studies create space for student interests.

Mixed-Age Classroom

Core content will be delivered in a mixed-age setting with competency being the key factor for grouping and academic progression.

Interdisciplinary Curriculum

We tie concepts together in thematic units. An integrated science and social studies curriculum allows students to see connections across the content areas.

Community Partnerships

We partner with local organizations like Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture, Rock of Ages Music (ROAM) and Potomac Kempo to provide specialized learning experiences for our students.
